Arrival in Germany
Your first steps after arrival
Prepare your address, insurance and residence appointment before travelling. Keep the instructions for your own visa and destination close at hand.

Check these conditions
- Arrange health insurance covering you from entry into Germany; check when any employer or training insurance actually starts.[1]
- Register your address within two weeks of moving into a home. For rented housing, the registration office needs the landlord’s confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).[2]
- Apply for the residence permit at your local immigration authority in good time before your entry visa expires.[1]
Documents to prepare
Starting points for preparation. The official checklist for your application may require additional documents.[2][1]
- Passport, visa and the conditions attached to it
- Landlord’s confirmation and local registration form
- Health insurance evidence
- Your contract and documents requested by the local authority
Your next three steps
Check your destination
Find the official websites of the registration office and immigration authority for your town. Check how each books appointments.
Prepare the first appointments
Confirm accommodation and insurance. Ask your employer, school or host which documents they need at the start.

Use your path checklist and messages to the Nutchi team. Keep official appointment confirmations and deadlines in your own calendar.
Your checklist records preparation. It does not book appointments, submit residence applications or extend official deadlines.
